Finding Sterling Peace
A Poem inspired by "Surprised By Joy" by C.S Lewis.
Have a walk for me always, so you
can always be at home.
In solemn silence and humble fear, divinity
plays in the ruffling trees and raging seas.
Wandering under genius thunderstorms,
we find the moment, the trembling now.
It pursues us with gentle patience like lightning,
where suffering flashes by. You know it well:
When we were apologizing for asking for love,
when they felt joy dancing to our misery.
Darkness was lurking behind them; they claim
to have touched Heaven, but their hands are charred.
The infinite echo staggers in sight
of the butterfly’s shout.
In searing silence, we will the will of Love,
in the Now, so that it might burst forth from us.
Courage, dear Heart!
I lay you bare, without shuddering, for your sake.
So that Joy will be your nature, and so that to not be so
will be your glittering shame.
Our chrome fealty crowns us in agony, we’re
children who our father calls the prizes of joy.
Today will kiss you peace, despite nightmarish tomorrows.
